Day 4: Huangshan (Jingdezhen)
Jingdezhen is a bustling, regional city that is often considered China’s Porcelain Capital. For over 2000 years, its kilns have fired some of the world's most recognizable and highly sought- after ceramic creations. Visit Jingdezhen Ancient Kilns and Folk Custom Museum A bit like a living museum, the museum contains traditional porcelain-making equip- ment, including revived ancient kilns, and has teams of staff demonstrating how they were once used. This large, nicely landscaped site is fittingly located at No.1, Ancient Kiln Road, Porcelain Capital Avenue. Some of the buildings here date from Qing and Ming times, although have been largely rebuilt. Guests will have the
opportunity to go to a
local work shop and see
a master make ceramics
in the imperial style.
Lunch at local Chinese
restaurant In the after-
noon, continue on to the
Jingdezhen Ceramics Museum. The
Jingdezhen Ceramics
Museum is the first of its
kind and located in the world-renowned porce-
lain capital. It is in close
proximity to the beauti-
ful Lotus Pond inside the
city. The museum boasts
nineteen thousand
ceramic pieces, ranging
from over 600 years old
to ceramics produced by modern-day masters.
The museum is a most important systematic and holistic showcase for glorious achievements in ceramics during the last two thousand years. Stroll on to the Letian Ceramics market. A favorite among locals and visitors alike, this market is filled with mer- chants peddling all kinds of ceramics, which makes for great souvenir shop- ping. In the late afternoon or evening transfer return to Huangshan for dinner on your own. [B/L]
