Innovation is defined as the creation of new ideas, concepts and concept frameworks that have the potential to become new products, systems, environments or new media that may not have existed before.
Ingenious people see the connection between theory and practice, and quite often it is the pursuit of ingenuity that drives us to be innovative.
Ingenuity is defined as the process of taking creative and innovative notions and crafting them into practical outcomes that meet needs or opportunities.
In this way ingenuity is quite different from innovation. The Learning Process is by its nature a very ‘messy’ cognitive process. It is by no means a sequential process and it is rarely predictable. Above all, the Learning Process requires creative educators to stimulate curiosity through the imaginative and creative application of prompts that, in turn, encourage learners to want to learn. These expectations require a substantive change to the contemporary pedagogy that is used in most schools. BUT the consequences of not making these changes will be tragic for many learners, as well as for our society.
Curiosity is defined as a genetic instinct that is embedded within us all that drives us to understand what we presently cannot comprehend.
We cannot control our curiosity, and its allure affects everyone, which is why we describe it as an instinct rather than a habit. This does not mean you will stay curious about everything; forever. We are instinctively curious but whether we pursue that curiosity will depend on how many other demands are on our time!
Intrigue is defined as when our curiosity reaches a point where everything else other than what made us curious, retreats to our non-conscious world.
As with curiosity, intrigue is an instinct, but it is an extension of curiosity, in that intrigue drives, and demands us to make sense of the ambiguity or what cannot be immediately explained, at the expense of everything else around us, that we may have been involved in.
