www Countryfile. His brother, Peter Haigh (N 71), also had a ride on the last day, which culminated in a dinner in Bridgnorth with 14 colleagues.
Paul Horrell (S 51) says he is at last recognising the disadvantages of growing older, but still plays golf regularly and notes that the pleasure increases in step with his acceptance that his talents remain mainly hidden! He regularly meets Charles Valentine, made his annual trip to Madeira, where he saw Rod Alexander (Sc 61), and reports that his brother, Martin Horrell (S 53), still lives near Exeter and enjoys motoring trips to France and Spain in his open-top Mercedes.
This leads me straight on to Rod, who has been adjusting to life as a widower after the sad loss of his wife, Sheila, last year. He has found it easier than expected with support from village friends and keeping busy with local fund-raising, cricket, wine and classic car shows. He has also appreciated the hospitality of David and Hazel Bland, parents of Nathan Bland (LS 94) and Edward Bland (LS 97), and much enjoyed
both the Oundle leavers’ concert at Burghley and the Over-60s’ Lunch at the RAF Club with his study-mate and best man, Bill Howson (Sc 61). Abroad, he bumped into Paul Horrell in Madeira, but his favoured Oundle event of the year was the May trip to East Prussia, guided by Alan Midgley, a tour de force by him and the Oundle Society.
It was good to hear again from William Reddaway (Lx 66) who, after 35 years in Cheltenham, has just moved to a house in Thrupp, near Stroud. It was an exhausting process, involving the sale of three houses, but it should be completed by October and has resulted in family members being close by. As an aside, I enjoyed meeting William at the 2014 Taunton Lunch, as he and I coincidentally attended the same prep school in Sussex!
Philip Anley (N 95), having kept his powder dry last year, reports that his contemporary, Jon Parry (N 95), and Linda welcomed Jacob Parry into the world on 7th December 2017. Another contemporary, Christo Daniels (N 95), and his wife, Helena,
now have two boys under two, Otene and Taika. The three families enjoyed watching a veritable cricket team of young children playing on the beach in Poole in early summer. Meanwhile, Philip is teaching Computer Science and English at Lydiard Park Academy, and was recently awarded the National Professional Qualification for Headship.
Reg Andlaw (N 51) reports that Richard Morris (Lx 54) and family were neighbours in Bristol in the 1970s, although it was some six months before they discovered they were at Oundle at the same time. Richard moved away, but they have kept in touch and used to drive together to the Taunton Lunches.
We received comprehensive news last year from Tom Hiscocks (St A 81), who creates remarkable sculptures from his base in Pewsey, Wiltshire, combining innovative art with modern materials technology, so a look at his website is much recommended. This year he has exhibited at the Chelsea Flower Show, Beaulieu and Ascot, and sold works both internationally and to
