www remained with him throughout his life, enjoying annual golf and ski trips.
“After law school in Chester, he was articled at Wilde Sapte, where he met Julia. After qualification he moved to Ashursts to gain experience in renewable energy and managed to indulge his passion for travel in countries such as Brazil, India and the USA, making many new friends along the way.
“When Chris was diagnosed with symptomatic HD, he made a choice to live each day as fully as possible. He was a lawyer with GSK and Cancer Research, then a volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau. He also enjoyed working for several years as a volunteer gardener at Chiswick House.
“His love of sport always stayed with him and when he could no longer run or cycle, he took great pleasure from spectating. He was able to go to the Etihad to watch his beloved Manchester City win their first Premier League title and attended golf and tennis tournaments with friends and family.
“He spent his last two years in the specialist Sue Ryder Home at Stagenhoe, charming the carers, and died with Julia beside him. Chris bore his illness with great courage and grace. He will be remembered as a loved husband and son, and a loyal and fun friend.”

Eleanor Waind (N)
died 2nd February 2019.
Her mother, Amanda, writes: “Ellie was born in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, on Christmas Eve 1995. In September 2009 she started her schooling at Oundle, joining her sister, Megan (N 12), and later being joined by her brother, Joseph (St A 14).
“Ellie formed a special bond of friendship with her fellow students in New House and at Oundle that continued after leaving school. She
thrived in her studies and had a passion for Maths and Chemistry, being awarded the Higgs Scholarship for Scientific Research in the Sixth Form.
“She was a keen sportswoman, playing in the netball and tennis teams, and made the most of the many School trips and sports tours. Ellie joined Megan on the netball tour to Barbados and tennis tour to Portugal, as well as enjoying a visit to Murindati School in Kenya. As a House Prefect, Ellie was in charge of arranging the 2014 New House trip and it was no surprise to her Housemates that it was to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter.
“Pursuing her love of science, Ellie chose to read Chemistry at Bristol University and won a Chemistry prize in her final year. She was accepted
on to a finance graduate scheme and was looking forward to starting a career in finance in London.
“Sadly, in November 2016 Ellie was diagnosed with cancer, which prevented the completion of her studies at Bristol and the start of her new career. She received chemotherapy treatment at St James’s Hospital, Leeds, as well as proton beam therapy in Florida. After two years and three months of bravely fighting her sarcoma, Ellie lost her battle and died peacefully in St James’s Hospital, aged 23. Ellie’s final evening was spent with Megan in hospital, recollecting their fun times at school together.
“Throughout her treatment Ellie remained positive, enjoying life to the full with friends and family, and travelling extensively – to Japan, New Orleans, New York, the Seychelles, Paris and Naples.
“Ellie was a remarkable and dignified young woman with a passion for life. She had an infectious sense of fun, a caring spirit, abundant talent and energy, and extraordinary bravery. We are all truly blessed to have known and loved her.
“Ellie never dwelled on negativity.
She thrived off seeing the best in
everyone and every situation. Her
positivity and vibrancy gave her a
glowing aura. One of our friends remembers a complete stranger approaching Ellie and telling her that
she was ‘the living embodiment of sunshine!’” www
