right rough on 17 nearly hitting the green – with a driver! So, it was a sad end to a most enjoyable campaign.
The Bunny Millard four were unsuccessful in qualifying for the knockout stages. When I caught up with one of them in the car park, he summed it up in four words – too many....putts!
We enjoyed a delightful dinner with the Old Lorettonians at Worplesdon on the Friday evening, kindly organised by Noel Stephens (St A 59). A silver coaster was presented to Patrick Fossett for his near 20 years of organisation and a great time was had by all. We need more young thrusters over 55 please!
Of particular note, we were joined this year by ex-OO Club President Shane Dodd (Sn 74). His presence brightened up the Oundelian team no end, though we have always been a bit worried about his dress sense. Many thanks for joining us ‘Doddy’ – come back next year!

2019 PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ MIDLAND MEETING
This is one of those eagerly-awaited golfing days, nearly two rounds of foursomes on one of the Midlands’ premier courses at Little Aston in June.
The format is teams of eight in pairs, playing stableford, off handicap, with the best three scores to count to the team total.
The OOGS side consisted of Peter Pentecost (St A 73) and Nick Copestick (Ldr 69), James Aston (St A 92) and Joss Cheatle (G 00), Guy Beresford (B 81) and Bob Ellis (D 65), Nick Cheatle (G 63) and Nigel Hetherington (Lx 65).
We have won this schools’ tournament several times in the past, but this year did not fare particularly well on the scoreboard.
Shrewsbury were the overall winners. Their best pair scored 40 points, whereas our best accumulated only 28. There is an additional competition in the afternoon over
15 holes. David Aston (St A 55) stepped in for Peter, who had to return to work. However, due to the exertions over lunch no one can quite remember what happened!
Many thanks to Shane Dodd (Sn 74) for his organisation and super-cheerful encouragement on the day.
2019 OLD PUPILS’ SILVER SALVER
By Nick Whalley (C 96)
Despite solid performances across the board, for the fourth year running we again fell one short of recapturing the trophy at Luffenham Heath in April.
The day saw some good golf from our team, but in the end we lost to a strong Oakham side, after beating Stamford, Loughborough Grammar and Wellingborough. My thanks to the whole team for their valiant efforts.
OOGS: Joss Cheatle (G 00), Steve Carr (S 84), Andrew Lightowler (LS 97), Nick Owles (N 63) and Peter Pentecost (St A 73).
2018 OOGS ANNUAL WEEKEND
By James Aston (St A 92)
The 2018 OOGS Annual Weekend in October commenced with a committee meeting and dinner at The George Hotel in Stamford on the Friday, which was a fine way to kick off proceedings.
The golf at Luffenham Heath was attended by 24 members, but Saturday's competitions were played in constant rain, with winds gusting to more than 30mph, so that scoring was not easy.
On the Saturday there were singles in the morning, with an option of teaming up for a foursomes competition in the afternoon, while Sunday golf is now fourballs rounded off with a short prizegiving and lunch to allow for a prompt return home.
