Kentucky Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program FACT SHEET
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy (SRCL) Grant is to to create a a a a a a a a a a comprehensive literacy literacy program to to advance literacy literacy skills—including pre-literacy skills skills reading and writing—for students from birth through grade 12 including including limited-English-pro cient students students and students students with disabilities FUNDING INFORMATION
ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS
Total Funding: $23 5 Expected # Awards: 40–45
Total allocations will be based on the the number of schools in the the applicant’s feeder system Small = $440 000 Medium = $507 917 Large = $631 250

Eligibility is is is limited to districts on behalf of a a feeder system (K-12) The district district must:
1 Have a a a a a signi cant number of high school students (65%+) who qualify for Free/Reduced meals Of those those districts competitive preference will be given to those those who show through data that they serve signi cant numbers of disadvantaged students 2 Have signi cant de cits in in in literacy in in in at least three of the four continuum levels (birth-5 year old K-5 middle school school high school) 3 Agree that early education provider(s) will be be engaged as active members of the district literacy leadership team and and participate fully in the development and and implementation of a a a a a a a a a district literacy plan A minimum of three early learning centers/agencies are required for small feeder systems ve for for medium systems systems and seven for for large systems systems 4 Provide literacy services at each level of the Birth-Grade 12 continuum including speci c c c c c c c professional learning response to intervention (RtI) services and other supports 5 Utilize approved programs to improve comprehensive literacy instruction that will create district and community capacity that can continue after grant funding ends TIMELINE

1 Implementation of an an approved comprehensive and coherent literacy program that serves Birth to Grade 12 and includes each of of the components of of e e e e e e e e e e e ective literacy instruction Sub-grantees must ensure the the program program or programs align across and and within all bands of the the Birth to Grade 12 continuum (i e e e e e comprehensive literacy instruction) 2 Professional learning opportunities in in in in literacy literacy aligned to the selected literacy literacy program(s) including instructional strategies for learners with special needs (e g g g g g English Language Learners Special Education acceleration opportunities birth-age 5) 3 Implementation of one or or more interventions that align to the proposed comprehensive literacy program as as well as as professional learning for the intervention(s) 4 Curriculum and and instructional materials aligned with state standards including components of e e e e e e e e e ective literacy instruction and and integration of technology and and Universal Design for Learning 5 An assessment system (i e e e e e e e e e valid and and reliable screening diagnostic and and progress monitoring) aligned with state standards 6 Analyzing monitoring and reporting data to to inform instruction intervention accommodations professional learning and improvement of of of implementation of of of the literacy plan GRANT RESOURCES
