EMBOLDEN STUDENT VOICE, CHOICE, AND ACTION
Self-Selected Texts Fuel a Lifelong
Love of Reading
Imagine that your students are inspired to read not because they have to, but because they want to. They are curious and motivated—moving excitedly from one book to the next.
Critical to developing observant, re ective, and thoughtful readers, reading self-selected texts increases engagement and commitment. As students dive into books they’ve chosen— based on their unique interests—they’re formulating new ideas, immersing themselves in new cultures and perspectives, and exploring new ways to develop their writing voice.
