California Low-Performing Students Block Grant
DESCRIPTION
The Low-Performing Students Block Grant Program (LPSBG) is a California state education funding initiative (formula/block grant allocations) serving pupils identi ed as low-performing on state English Language Arts or Mathematics assessments (level 1 scoring and close level 2) who are not otherwise identi ed for supplemental grant funding under the local control funding formula or eligible for special education services.
These funds are designated to address the persistent achievement gap in California’s public schools and to provide resources and evidence-based practices to initiate and sustain authentic systemic change. FUNDING TIMELINE

Automatic allocations to eligible schools*
Funds will be released: 1. December 2018
2. May-June 2019
Duration: 2 years

Eligible Applicants
• School Districts
• Charter Schools
• County O ces of Education (COEs)
Approval Process: Funds are conditional and automatically allocated with mandatory reporting requirements due March 1, 2019, summarizing how funds will increase or improve evidenced-based services, how the e ectiveness of evidenced-based services will be measured, and how services align with Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs).
LPSBG plans must be discussed and adopted at a regularly scheduled meeting of the governing board of the school district, the county board of education, or the governing body of the charter school.
ALLOWABLE ACTIVITIES
Funds shall be used for evidence-based services that directly support pupil academic achievement, including, but not limited to:
• Professional development activities for certi cated sta ;
• Instructional materials, such as intervention programs and supplemental materials; and
• Other additional supports for pupils.
