Who doesn’t love a friendly next-door neighbor? At Bay Creek, ours is the town of Cape Charles, a village of about 1,000 residents that has received recent accolades from the likes of The Washington Post and Ideal Living Magazine.
In 1607, when Captain Christopher Newport and the first colonists who settled at Jamestown entered the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, they sighted the tip of the Eastern Shore peninsula, which they named Cape Charles. The land that is now Bay Creek was first surveyed a year later by Captain John Smith, who took note of its fertile soils and abundant marine life. Over the centuries this land has hosted dignitaries ranging from railroad tycoons to U.S. Presidents.Today, Cape Charles is a thriving town with a surprisingly worldly blend of shops, restaurants, parks, and art galleries. Whether you’re window- shopping on Mason Avenue or enjoying a live concert or play at the restored Palace Theater, Cape Charles will quickly capture your heart.
When you’re ready to trade ‘in-town’ for ‘out on the water,’ it couldn’t be any easier. Cape Charles boasts a welcoming waterfront and harbor, home to concerts, town gatherings and of course, all manner of seacraft. Plus, the world-class Oyster Farm at Kings Creek marina is right here, too, adjacent to Bay Creek. Fishing or paddling, sailing or cruising— it’s easy to dock your own boat or discover a chartered sightseeing adventure on the glistening waterways of the Eastern Shore.
