The sperm whale is the biggest predator on Earth. But its prey – the jumbo squid – is strong, agile and quick-witted. Growing to two metres, the squid is a voracious predator in its own right, even eating its own kind. No one has ever witnessed sperm whales hunting squid, but now, technology allows us to follow these marine giants battling it out 1.5 miles under the sea, explaining one of the greatest wildlife mysteries of the planet.

‘Sri Lanka – Precious Isle’ takes the viewer on a trip to various places of this beautiful country. But rather than showing only picturesque landscapes, the story features seven different but outstanding characters. Some of the programmes protagonists’ occupations might look common in a local context, though some developed a unique way to travel new paths. Passion, love and strength are but a few things all of the protagonists have in common.
Orchid Island lies just off Taiwan’s southern coast. Fish and sea snakes populate its coral reefs, while forested slopes house lanyu scops owls, whistling green pigeons, reptiles and huge spiders. The island is also home to a unique sea-going culture - the Tao people. Their knowledge and respect for the forests and ocean has preserved the island’s wild and unspoilt nature.

The month of November hails the incredible spectacle of these delicate and graceful creatures spawning in vast quantities off the South African coast.
