Diving Deep: The Life And
Times Of Mike deGruy
1 x 87’, 2019, HD
This is the story of Mike deGruy, a curious and enthusiastic underwater filmmaker who died suddenly in 2012. DeGruy filmed the oceans for more than three decades becoming as famous for his on camera storytelling as for his intimate visions of the sea and the creatures who live in it. Inspired to share his legacy as a filmmaker and storyteller, and to spread his mission for protecting the ocean, his wife and filmmaking partner Mimi deGruy returned to the edit room to produce ‘Diving Deep: The Life and Times of Mike deGruy’. Pumas are among the Americas’ most elusive predators and have always been considered solitary hunters. Few people know Pumas better than wildlife filmmaker Casey Anderson who has filmed them near Yellowstone National Park. Everything he thought he knew is proved wrong when he journeys to Chile and witnesses behavior never seen before. Guided by Chilean filmmaker René Araneda, they venture into an area known as ‘The Puma Triangle’ in Torres del Paine National Park. Tracking eight pumas as they move together across the Patagonian wilderness, leading the filmmakers to the ultimate prize — a pride of pumas feeding on a kill. What’s caught on camera is not the behavior of the solitary Pumas we thought we knew. Are they watching evolution in action? Many questions remain but ‘Into the Puma Triangle’ reveals it’s time to re-write the text books on Pumas.
The forest Frontline staff are the last lifeline for conservation in India. Protecting 7% of the world’s biodiversity amidst a population of 1.2 billion is always a challenge. With their job being 24/7 it’s only their passion and commitment that make them show up every day. ‘Heroes Of The Wild Frontiers’ salutes these brave soldiers and shows us a tapestry of ecosystems from the Trans-Himalayan cold deserts to the deep sea coral systems, from steaming mangroves to sprawling grasslands, along with showcasing the rare Indian wildlife. Hacienda Nápoles, Colombia was once the haunt of Pablo Escobar, who had a soft spot for Hippopotami! During the excesses of his reign of terror, he organised for four Hippos to be captured in Africa and delivered to his ranch. Escobar unwittingly spawned a Colombian alien animal invasion; a real life Jurassic Park-story, with potentially terrifying consequences. Having broken down the fences and escaped the drug baron’s exotic zoo, one of the most deadly animals on Earth is now running riot on the streets and infiltrating the wilderness of Colombia. To investigate the situation and hopefully find a solution, Colombian vet, Gina Paola Serna Trujillo, is calling in the services of South African big game capture expert, Chris Hobkirk. Together they are on a dangerous and risky mission to find and deal with Escobar’s terrifying legacy.
