In late 2001, from the rainforests of Cameroon, four helpless baby western lowlands gorillas were snatched from their mothers who had been killed by poachers. This film chronicles the step by step procedure of returning the ‘Taiping Four’ to their home in Cameroon. Interviews with hunters and ex-hunters reveal the truths and myths about the bush meat trade and explain the world of poachers and gorilla hunters in Cameroon.

Prior to European settlement, the Great Plains were home to enormous herds of bison and antelope. Wolves and grizzly bears thrived at the top of the diverse food chain. Pairing blue-chip wildlife behaviour with rangers, scientists and First Nations that are working on the front line of unique conversation practices, this film is a journey through one of the planet’s least known, most beautiful and most endangered ecosystems – the Northern Great Plains.

The African penguin is fighting for survival. Presenter Michaela Strachan is on a mission to help them. After ten years living in her adopted home of Cape Town, South Africa, the peninsula’s penguins have found a special place in Michaela’s heart. As the newest recruit to the SANCCOB chick bolstering team, Michaela will be finding out why the penguin numbers have crashed so dramatically and what can be done to save them.
This is the story of the remarkable rebirth of an African wilderness. In the 1980s and 90s, the Gorongosa national park in Mozambique was devastated by civil war. In 1983, the park was shut down and abandoned. Now, an international team of scientists and conservationists has assembled to repair it. They want to ‘re-wild’ the park. It’s one of the most ambitious wilderness restoration projects ever attempted, and we have a front row seat.

The Great Elephant Gathering captures the stunning natural phenomenon of wild Sri Lankan elephants assembling in large numbers every year, a behaviour found in very few places around the world. However, a dwindling elephant population and encroachment of their natural habitat by an expanding human population means their gathering could be under threat.

All over the tropics of Australia and Asia, armies of 500,000 soldiers are on standby. These ants use expert chemical communication, engaging their opponents in fierce battles. In their satellite outposts we investigate their rise to power, the wars and submissions. We look at their parallel world and examine how science is using their combative behaviour to improve farming practices.
