He used to trap animals to kill them, now he’s trapping animals to save them. In this compelling series we follow trapper extraordinaire Darien Simpson in his quest to catch some of the most elusive big predators in Africa so that vital conservation work can be carried out. Darien’s personality is as big as the challenges he faces: to ensure the survival of these animals in the long term by catching them unharmed.
Trapper In Africa
In an ancient ritual performed by the Maasai people of Kenya, to prove their skills and courage, young men have to kill a wild lion. With lion numbers in dramatic decline, the Maasai elders have made a vital decision. To abolish the killing. It was one of their culture’s most defining traditions, but out of it the Maasai Olympics were born. Now, trophies of a different kind are taken home and they are regarded with the same importance and approval within the Maasai communities.

A half-tonne tiger-lion hybrid, a 55-pound salamander, a spider the size of a dinner plate, a squid the size of a car and beach worms that grow up to 2.5 metres long. In nature, some living creatures are so unique, they’re in a class by themselves. How do these remarkable animals live, thrive and survive?
How do you trap one of the shyest cats in the world, the jaguar, without them even knowing it? Darien Simpson travels to the Amazon rainforest to capture jaguars for conservation purposes and shows that it is not just patience that is required for the job.
Triosphere
There are few places on this blue planet that can match the marine diversity of Southern Africa. Two currents create two radically different marine environments and shape the ecosystems and human settlements along the South African coast. Two Oceans explores the kelp forest, the rocky inter tidal zone and the submerged coral reefs to bring the most vibrant, dangerous and fascinating oceans straight to you.

Deep in the jungles of Peru, the seasonal downpours are about to begin and the rainforest’s animals must strive to cope with the changing conditions. Through millions of years of evolution, they have developed bizarre relationships and unexpected strategies to overcome challenges, but the arrival of a new species on the scene is a conundrum which might be the hardest they’ve ever faced.
