Using incredible microscopic filming techniques, we investigate the story of a tiny invader on its inexorable rise to power – the Argentine Ant. The ant is minute, but that doesn’t prevent it being hugely invasive. Already, the ants have formed the largest super-colony on the planet, over nearly 6,000km from northern Italy to Portugal, through France and Spain. Is it possible to stop their advance towards the north? Scientists have serious doubts.

The Appalachians form a vast mountain range, from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north. Its ridges and valleys are cloaked in dense forest and there’s a secret world of rivers and waterfalls.
