Using incredible microscopic filming techniques, we investigate the story of a tiny invader on its inexorable rise to power – the Argentine Ant. The ant is minute, but that doesn’t prevent it being hugely invasive. As the snow melts away in the Swiss Alps, one of the largest animal societies on Earth explodes into life. From a unique super-colony of a thousand mounds, millions of tiny wood ants appear. These ants don’t fight their own kind. But close by live warring breeds of their fellow species; wood ants from single mounds, aggressive creatures which survive by pillaging their neighbours. This drama of unlikely relationships is told through spectacular 4K footage.
