because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.
What we typically take away from this parable is that Jesus is teaching us about the importance of persistence in prayer. However, there is so much more than just that in this parable. There is something very important in it that opens our eyes to a great responsibility that we have as children of God.
Specifically, we have a prayer responsibility to seek blessings from God to meet the need of those who lack, and precisely those who are close to us and we are in a position to bless. This responsibility has nothing to do with whether the blessing they desire, such as the food required to feed the hunger of the visitor, is required by us or is in our possession.
Let us complete the picture given in that parable by adding these other popular verses of scripture:
