 Stay Safe
in Salem
     Thousands of people choose to
celebrate Halloween night in Salem,
and while we encourage people to have fun, the City of Salem strongly discourages disorderly behavior including drinking and smoking marijuana in public, littering, and random acts of vandalism. Offenders will be subject to significant civil and criminal penalties.
  PUBLIC SAFETY IN OCTOBER
• SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. Report suspicious activity to Salem PD at (978) 744-1212, or reach the Salem Fire Department at (978) 744-1235. In case of emergency, dial 9-1-1.
• DO NOT BRING WEAPONS, fake or real, as they will be confiscated.
• PUBLIC CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL AND MARIJUANA USE ARE PROHIBITED. Imbibe inside Salem’s bars, restaurants, and designated outdoor beer gardens. Marijuana use is prohibited in public areas.
• TAKE THE TRAIN, FERRY, OR SHUTTLE. Park in Beverly and take
the MBTA Commuter Rail or hop on the Salem Ferry from Boston’s Long Wharf. The free weekend parking shuttle picks up from Salem High School, Salem State, and Salem Hospital, but space is limited.
Know Before You Go
• TRIPPLE FINES ARE IN EFFECT on October 31. This means citations for illegal behavior, including public drinking and marijuana use, vandalism, and littering, could have fines of up to $300.
• BE PATIENT. Expect road closures on weekends or Halloween. If you must drive, expect delays.
• FOLLOW PARKING SIGNS. Do not park in “Resident Only” spots. The fine is $75, and you will be towed.
• ARRIVE EARLY. Arrive by 8:30 am to make the most of your Halloween experience in Salem.
• DON’T GET STUCK. On Halloween night, the MBTA will be closing the Commuter Rail garage to cars from 6 pm-12 am. No cars will be able to enter or exit during those hours.
• VISIT MBTA.COM/ALERTS for information on train and bus schedules and fireworks viewing locations.
• DRONES ARE PROHIBITED due to the location of Salem Maritime National Historic Site and Salem’s proximity to Beverly Airport.
• THE PARTY ENDS AFTER THE FIREWORKS ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT.
Plan to depart by 10:30 pm as the public works department will begin sweeping the streets.
