YOUNG LAWYERS REPORT
The Pierce County New and Young Lawyers Section wants to thank everyone who came out to our rst annual Casino Night. It was an energetic, fun- lled
evening with revelry, great costumes, and prizes. We also owe a special thank you to our many sponsors, who helped make the event successful.
For those of you who were unable to attend, here are some of the highlights.
• Approximately 130 members of the TPCBA community attended the event.
• Young Lawyers fundraised $500 for Tacoma Pro Bono. • Five attendees won prizes, including a Fire TV Cube,
Echo Dot, a Sunrise Alarm Clock, and $130 in cash.
“I thought this was a really great event and we had a great time. Nice venue, fun crowd, and lots of energy.”
- Eric Gilman, Attorney at Gordon, omas, Honeywell
“Casino night was a blast. Everything was a hit from the music, to the tables, to the company. My favorite part of casino night was the games. Everyone got into the games and enjoyed playing with the funny money. You can never go wrong with funny money.”
- Kendra Lytle, paralegal at McKinley Irvin, NALS President
“VERY fun night. It had this awesome 1920s vibe, everyone was dressed up, there were high stakes gambling*, and drinks owing around. Bringing in a casino crew was a fantastic idea. So much fun.”
- Jace Jones, Legal Assistant at Connelly Law O ces *Author’s Note- all gambling was with “funny” money, so the
‘high stakes’ involved losing fake money.
In line with the mission of the Young Lawyers
Section, our goal for Casino Night was to host a fun event that brings members of the Bar and law students together in a socializing and fun atmosphere.
Here’s what some of the attendees had to say about the event:
“Casino Night exceeded my expectations. I’m usually not a big fan of networking events but providing an ample amount of casino games, a delicious variety of hors-d’oeuvres, an awesome photobooth, and yummy cocktails was the perfect way to get people to engage with others in the legal profession. My girlfriend and I had a great time throughout the night.”
- Igor Shapiro, law student at Seattle University School of Law 18 PIERCE COUNTY LAWYER | September/October 2018
If you couldn’t make it this year, don’t fret! e Young Lawyers are already busy planning next year’s event, so keep an eye out for dates and get your costumes ready. Our Board has on-going discussions and an analysis regarding what went well this year and what we can do better next year. Any feedback or ideas are appreciated.
