pitch. I sat there is disbelief out of the window, it wasn’t even raining that hard.
After some disappointment, we scoured the xture list and considered our options. Accrington and Bolton were possibilities, but Salford City was the most convenient for Manchester city centre. So back we went to Manchester to the “Class of 92’s” pet project. We spotted Gary Neville in a box and enjoyed standing with the Harrogate Town fans on a terrace, as Salford squeaked a 2-1 win in this top of the table clash. It is a tidy little ground and the facilities were excellent, and it will hopefully be a tick o for the 92 soon. But I nd it hard to get excited about teams buying their way up the leagues (see Billericay Town as another example), there’s something just a bit soulless about it.
So I was denied a third match of the season, and a new league ground, but perhaps it was a relief as it may have been a third defeat on the spin for me. Rochdale will have to wait for another day, preferably in August or May!
Scunthorpe (H) – There will be plenty of
reports of Sir Chris’ match in charge so I’ll keep this brief.
I was watching this in the porch of my beach shack in Goa. I was putting the kids to sleep for the rst half and saw it was 1-1 at half time. Then I had to go out and get some shopping, before I tuned in for the nal 20 minutes. I hadn’t checked the score and could only see the bottom half of the Roots Hall scoreboard on iFollow, and could see “Scunthorpe 2”, so assumed that Scunny were 2-1 up. When Turner scrambled the equaliser I went mad and was very happy with a 2-2 draw.
My wife was watching and commented that the players were celebrating a lot for a draw, and it did strike me as odd that we’d hold the ball up in the corner for a draw. Only when I checked the BBC did I realise it had actually been a last minute winner – so my night got even better! Onwards and upwards under Sir Chris Powell!

ON THE ROAD Rochdale, Spotland
WE go again, as all footballers are so fond of saying, with a second trip to Rochdale on March 13, a couple of months after the original fell victim to the weather less than three hours before kick o .
Spotland is a decent away trip, although perhaps less ideal on a Tuesday given the distance. Those making the trip may have bad memories of the place as we don’t tend to do well there, losing our previous two matches here, although a thumping win on Good Friday 2014 was more memorable. Visiting fans will once again be in the Wilbutts Lane stand, along one side of the pitch, which is relatively new and o ers good views and acoustics. £22 is the adult price.
Those travelling by train will obviously have to look for somewhere to stay overnight, but Rochdale is reached from Manchester Victoria station. Alternatively, the Travelzone and Shrimpers Trust coaches should be
running as usual and provide a great service. If you’re driving, street parking around the ground is mainly residents only but the Eden eld Road has some spots.
If you don’t have the car, it is well worth spending some time in The Baum pub, one of the best in the country and by far and away the best option for a pre-match pint. For food, look no further than the chippy over the road, which is highly rated.
