Kevin Nathan Appliance World Owner
Appliance World’s Showroom: “We want to be able to show them how the product works. On weekends we have a chef cooking food, so people get a feel for what it’s like to own these products.”

Appliance World:
Planning & Predicting BY JANET WEYANDT
WHEN KEVIN NATHAN OPENED THE DOORS of Ap- pliance World in 1992, his philosophy was to give his custom- ers everything they would need to make smart decisions on the appliances they bought, to answer all their questions and gain their loyalty.
Now, joined by three of his five children and with two show- rooms on New York’s Long Island, he’s met those goals.
Brian Nathan, one of the three brothers who works along- side their father in a variety of capacities in the business, said appliances have been the family business for, well, forever.
“I think all he’s ever done is appliances,” Brian said of his dad. “Since he was 14 or 15, he worked at an appliance store as stock boy, sweeping floors.”
Eventually the elder Nathan moved on to selling extended warrantees for an appliance warrantee company, and finally decided to go into business for himself, according to his son. Over the years, the three eldest sons – Mike, Danny and Brian – joined the business. Next will be Steven, who plans to come aboard after college graduation next spring, and that leaves the youngest, Emily.
