Nonprofit Spotlight: Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club in Owensboro, Ky.
The mission of Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club in Owensboro, Ky.
is to inspire and empower young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
“We focus on assuring that success is within reach for every young person who walks through our doors,” said Cliff Hagan Boys & Club CEO Steve Winkle. “We are committed to helping all members stay on track to graduate from high school, plan for the future, demonstrate good character and leadership, and live a healthy lifestyle.”
Founded in 1967, Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club:
• Provides high-quality club programming that is safe, fun,
and makes a measurable difference.
• Advocates for access to high-quality programs and experiences
outside of school that equip young people with the tools
to succeed.
• Establishes public and private partnerships, which create
high-quality development experiences for all young people. “We serve children from ages six to 18 with innovative programs
designed to empower them in school, become good citizens, and lead healthy, productive lives,” Winkle says. “From health and wellness programs to fitness activities, college preparation, and character development sessions, we help make great futures possible.”
Atmos Energy has contributed more than $75,000 over the past decade to the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club for fitness activities, food and student
resources programs, and the annual Christmas party.
“One of the highlights of our partnership is the annual Christmas
party,” said Manager of Public Affairs Kay Coomes. “For the past 10 years our Atmos Energy Kentucky team members have volunteered for this memorable event, mentoring and connecting with club members through fun activities such as arts and crafts, games, and face-painting. As an extra treat, one of our very own, Mike Lewis, dresses up as Santa Claus and takes pictures with all who attend.”
With more than 80 percent of the club’s members on free or reduced lunch, Atmos Energy recently committed an additional $12,750 through its Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities program to ensure that the club’s youth have regular access to healthy snacks, fresh produce, and balanced, nutritious meals.
Kentucky Mid-States Division President Kevin Dobbs is a past Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club board member.
“Although the world has changed, the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club continues to help children through the pandemic by taking multiple approaches to help kids succeed,” he said. “We are proud to partner with this vital organization, and our Kentucky team is committed to doing whatever it takes to support our Owensboro children in reaching
their full potential.”
In 2018, Owensboro employees (including Engineer Silas Bohlen at left) co-hosted a Christmas party for the Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club in Owensboro. More than 200 children enjoyed games, crafts, lunch, and a visit with Santa Claus (Supply Chain Specialist Mike Lewis, shown below).

NORCO, La. – Senior Service Technician James Remondet was one of hundreds of Louisiana Division employees leveraging the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) after three hurricanes in two months left wide-spread damage in the Louisiana Division. FirstNet is a priority network service protecting First Responders from commercial traffic congestion, helping personnel restore natural gas service to customers. After receiving an emergency order from a supervisor or possibly a customer support associate, Remondet would verify the location on his Atmos Energy service truck laptop. For the FirstNet story, please turn to page 6.
