“After having finished the commissioned choreography on the topic of migration, there has been just one question that has been bothering me. During the EU project that was commissioned around the topic of migration, I somehow felt obliged to claim social justice with my artwork. My question after the whole process was if I am able to do so and if yes, what impact this could have on the world I’m living in. I started to read and research about justice and art, and unfortunately I didn’t find any answers. So I decided to start a new choreography, in the hope that through doing it, answers would appear. I invited the most competent person in the field to join the project, namely Lady Justice. She immediately accepted, but she added that she wouldn’t be able to be present in person during the process. Since this time I had no financial means from the EU project, I accepted to work with her being absent. Actually, I discovered later, that this is nothing very unusual, and that Lady Justice is involved in many projects where she is absent. So, we agreed that I would represent her during this piece. I have never represented Lady Justice before, so I will try and do my best. But please don’t forget that I’m just a representation of her. She insisted that during this performance I work with you as an audience, because you have a reputation of being very dedicated, engaged, supportive and are the commissioned audiences of all other audiences.
We heard that you like to think during the performance and sometimes even to participate in the performances. These are the qualities that Lady Justice finds very important when she works with her jury members at the court. We created a case that I have just laid out for you. In this case, like in any other case, there is a prosecutor and a defendant. As you can see I’m alone here, so I will also need to represent them both. Since I have a lot of representation to do, I would suggest we start right away with the presentation of the case: the prosecutor is in this case represented by THE ARTWORK. The identity of this artwork cannot be revealed outside of the court. The reason why the artwork is pressing charges, also cannot be revealed outside of the court. The prosecutor will present the testimony of the artwork. The defence is represented by the ARTIST. The identity of the artist cannot be revealed outside of the court. The reason why the defendant has been accused and whether he/she accepts the accusations, cannot be revealed outside of the court. The defence will present the most relevant evidence presented during the trial: the testimony of the artist.”
