CONCLUSION
In conclusion, from a brand’s point of view it is often the easier option
to stay away from topics to avoid backlash. However as consumers
are currently enduring a pandemic if brands avoid talking about issues completely they will lose relatability and end up looking naive and possibly uncaring. From a consumers point of view it is valuable to have brands endorsing societal issues and even more importantly that they are living the values that they are advertising. The brand will experience a backlash if they are exposed as not following what they are preaching. Finally, in an age of misinformation, facts can often get misconstrued and it is the responsibility of the social platforms, the brand and the consumer to react appropriately.
