Wide Screen Formats
• Every studio had their own proprietary formats but since they didn’t own the theaters anymore, owners were reluctant to put out the money for the equipment.
• Panavision, not owned by a studio, but independent, would not sell equipment only rent it. It standardized large format, and becomes the last “man” standing for the giant screen format
