Jim was born in in in New York with with spina bifida At 14 he he he he began to attend Camp Jened during the the summer where where he he he he he he he befriended teens with with disabilities and felt empowered as a a a a a a a a a a a disabled youth Later he he he he he he he he he attended the the the University of California San Diego where where he he he he he helped form the the Disabled Student Union After college James relocated to Berkeley California a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a cradle of disability rights activity He worked as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a sound designer and began his career with a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a ten-year stint at at at the the Berkeley Repertory Theater In the the 1980s he he he he obtained an an an an apprenticeship at at at a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a post-production facility and broke into film Over the the years James has done sound design work for over 145 films films with a a a a a a a a a a a particular focus on on documentary films films His filmography includes Minding the the the Gap The The The Waiting Room The The The Kill Team Audrie and and and and and Daisy Battlefield Earth and and and and and Dragon: The The The The Bruce Lee Story He is is is is the the the the founder of of Berkeley Sound Sound Artists and and and and and co-author of of of of Sound Sound and and and and and Music for the the the the Theater: the the the the art art and and and and and technique of of of design He is is is a a a a a a a a a a board member of of of the the the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund Presenter: Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live Brooklyn Nine-Nine)
