Lauren attended California State University Northridge a a a a a a a a a a a university with a a a a a a a a large deaf and hard-of- hearing student population because of its National Center on on on Deafness where she majored in in in English with an emphasis in in in creative writing After graduating she went to to Hunter College to to study education with with the goal of becoming a a a a a a children’s author She was also involved with with deaf community theater and film work for friends She is is a a a a a a a a a “Miss Deaf America” Pageant winner and was the the the first competitor of either African American American or or Mexican American American descent to to win win the the the pageant After winning Miss Deaf America America she began a a a a a a a a a a a a two-year stint as a a a a a a a a a a a spokesperson for the the National Associationof the Deaf
