Snow and ice bring chaos to Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside
Just when we thought we’d seen the last of wintry weather across Rochdale, Oldham and Tameside, it’s returned to cause even more problems on the transport network right across Greater Manchester.
Forecasters have issued another Yellow weather warning for our region with the threat of snow and ice expected to continue until at least Monday afternoon (12th February).
It comes after heavy snow fall, hail and sleet showers hit Greater Manchester on Sunday afternoon, along with other parts of the country, causing problems on the roads, trams and at airports.
However this morning Manchester Airport isn’t reporting any problems with flights both into and out of the airport arriving and leaving as planned.
Across Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside, the snow is expected the cause major problems on the road network with drivers being warned to allow extra time for their journey’s and to expect long delays especially during the morning rush hour.
Oldham firm first to be fined over pensions scheme
A company is Oldham is the first to be sentenced in the UK for not enrolling staff on a pension scheme.
Stotts Tours should have begun contributions for their staff from 2015, according to the Pensions Regulator.
They were ordered to pay more than £39,000 at a hearing at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
The firm and its managing director, Alan Stott, had previously admitted not complying with the law. District Judge Teresa Szagun said: “Initially Mr Stott’s attitude was to bury his head in the sand. “This later left him in a position where he was out of his depth.”
The firm was fined £27,000 and ordered to pay £7,400 in costs and a £120 victim surcharge on Wednesday.
That’s as well as £14,400 in civil fines already owed for not complying with the law on automatic pension enrolment - and around £10,000 in backdated contributions.
69-year old Stott was also ordered to pay £4,575 in fines and a victim surcharge.
All employers must contribute towards a pension scheme for staff, where appropriate, in the automatic enrolment scheme - according to the Pensions Act 2008.
