be able to use that extra water to generate even more .”
A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “The water level
at Dovestones currently stands at 85 per cent full and, as part of our Pennines group of reservoirs,

is being proactively managed to support recovery to normal levels for this time of year.
“Much of the immediate land surrounding the reservoir was not impacted by the moorland fires of last year,” she added.
“The wider area of moorland that was affected has started to re- vegetate where the fire wasn’t as severe.
“We are closely monitoring areas where the fire burnt deeper into the peat, and has likely destroyed the seed bank, to understand what is naturally regenerating and where we need to provide a helping hand.”
Last year after major parking issues a team of Dovestone Marshals, instigated and backed by the GMPs Saddleworth neighbourhood policing team, were on duty the reservoir on key weekends.
