 WaterSafe campaigns on water quality
IT’S LEAD
Poisoning Prevention Week in October and WaterSafe is gearing up to raise awareness of lead in
water with the production of a
new video.
The short advisory film has been shot
in Aberdeen, Scotland, with the help of Shaun Scott, Plumber of the Year in 2016 and a member of SNIPEF and WaterSafe.
The video offers advice on:
• why lead in water is bad for you
• how to recognise lead pipes
• what your water company will do
• advice from the drinking water
watchdogs
•
why it’s important to use lead-free solder.

Hosepipe safety
WaterSafe also braved the summer downpours to launch a campaign about the dangers the humble hosepipe can pose to drinking water quality.
Working in partnership with renowned health expert Dr Susanne Lee, director of Legionella Ltd, WaterSafe shared a list of top dos and don’ts to avoid backflow into supply and contamination by the potentially lethal bacteria which causes Legionnaires’ disease.

                              WHILE ON a visit to Ross-shire, HRH The Princess Royal stopped by at R&I Cruden Ltd, a family business that o ers the complete package providing a full scope of heating systems specialising in renewable technologies. Managing Director Ian Cruden said “It was a great honour and surprise when we heard about HRH The Princess Royal coming to visit us. We are delighted she is taking the time to see what we do and meet our team”.
SNIPEF member, R&I Cruden Ltd is a
firm of heating engineers based in Muir of Ord Industrial Estate. They work all over the Highland area installing and servicing heating systems in both domestic and commercial properties. The firm have been operating since 2008, and have grown organically since Managing Director Ian Cruden started the business as a sole trader in 2005.
The firm places great importance on
their investment in young people and is proud that two trainees have previously
won awards in the apprentice of the year competition. The firm currently employs three apprentices who are at various stages of their qualification and it is something Director of Operations, Rory Cruden, is eager to develop: “There is a skills shortage in this area and sourcing skilled professionals

Drinking Water Quality annual reports
The quality of drinking water in Scotland and Northern Ireland hit the press this summer when the water quality regulators published their annual reports. In Scotland 99.91% of samples taken by Scottish Water passed stringent quality tests, while in Northern Ireland the pass rate was 99.86%.
