Training and Apprenticeships
Apprentice training
We take a look at the exciting projects SNIPEF apprentices get involved in. This issue we feature Ross Adamson of Tayside Boiler Services
ROSS, 17, is an apprentice with Tayside Boiler Services, a Blairgowrie-based firm specialising in boiler service, replacement, repair as well as new installations. He’ll be
entering his second year at Dundee and Angus College after the summer break.
Ross is part of the Tayside Boiler Services team that
is currently working on a working multi-million pound hotel conversion project
which forms part of Dundee’s ambitious £1 billion waterfront regeneration initiative.
The project involves the transformation of the former Baxter Brothers Jute Mill at East Port into a boutique Indigo Hotel, with an anticipated opening date of March 2018.
The historic mill is being converted into a plush 102 guest room hotel offering a mixture of standard and executive rooms and suites
that are fully air-conditioned featuring luxury bathrooms with underfloor heating.
The project has provided
the opportunity for Ross to experience a broad range of different work types while
he is on site, for example measuring, cutting, bending, valves, connections and fittings. He will also be involved in the installation and fitting
of bathroom suites as well as under floor and central heating systems. This exposure to a broad range of new skills in proving invaluable to Ross
who told Regional Training Officer, Vanessa Docherty, that it was “great to be involved in
a project like this during my apprenticeship”.
