CASE STUDY
Objectives
Our client was seeking .NET developers and front end JavaScript developers. They are based in Maastricht and because of their location they had a lot of problems sourcing the right people.
Maastricht is a location which has a significant lack of experienced IT professionals, due to the large IT companies being in other parts of the country. In addition, young people from Maastricht tend
to move to cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht and Rotterdam. Therefore it is difficult to find qualified people in the Maastricht area.
Our client was working with two local suppliers, but they had little success with finding the right people in that area.
We had been in contact with our client for a while already and we were keen to work with them to provide solutions for their vacancies. In the first instance they weren’t really open to working with a consultancy from Amsterdam, simply because we were far away but also culturally they felt that we didn’t really fit with them.
However, as we were continuously offering the right solution within the timeframe, they gave us the chance to fill their vacant positions.
Strategy
We didn’t only look at people in the area of Maastricht but we reached out to our whole network to attract people who were not necessarily local, but potentially were willing to relocate to Maastricht. This qualification procedure gave us a much wider scope than the other local companies that they had been working with.
Challenges
The location was a problem as the majority of the people that were technically a good fit for the roles were not able or prepared to commute to Maastricht.
Solutions
We approached everybody we were able to source. We not only looked in the Netherlands but also in Belgium and Germany (Maastricht is close to both borders). By approaching a bigger pool of suitable candidates we were able to find people who were willing to work in this location.
For the two positions, we negotiated with our client and developed a solution for the successful candidates to remote work with regular visits on site. This flexible approach along with fully utilising our whole network meant that we could work
with candidates who were not just based in that specific location.
