We believe we can help transform the water hyacinth problem in Thailand into new opportunities to bring warmth to urban life around the world.
From the direct visit in Phayao Province for studying about the handicraft made of water hyacinth, the students could touch of the warmness of nature building the relaxation feeling which had never met from the life in big city. Therefore, Busarin and Wenyi decided to create innovation using eco-materials for transferring the warmness of nature to people living in big cities all over the world.
The water hyacinth has special properties that are foldable or bendable, and formable when pressing it in piece. It will become strong, have natural patterns and absorb the sound. So, the students were inspired to design four products for interior decoration which are environmental friendly as follows: 1. BK-1 Water Hyacinth Sheets Since it is the natural material with the density, surface and scent helping people to feel warm better than synthetic materials, the water hyacinth was applied to match with the present urban lifestyle by making the room partition. The first stage was to cut off the base and tip parts of the water hyacinth and leave the body part with length of 30 – 50 cm. After that, spread it out and then iron with the heat press machine to become new material.
2. BK-2 Ready-to-use Partition BK-2 was used of the 1 cm. long stem part of the water hyacinth, which was lined up as the surface. Then, pressed it with hot glue. When lighting them, the natural surface will form the soft light and irrgular shadow.
