"TSUBOMI" is a uniquely interesting book for a number of reasons. Firstly, it presents viewpoints and accounts of students from Tama Art University, Japan, and Art Center College of Design, the United States, who directly experienced local lifestyle and local wisdom of Northern Thailand. Their interpretation and creativity that have been inspired by Thai experience is interestingly translated into their innovations of product design under the concept of "Future Craft".
The creation future craft reflects many ideas of simplicity and sufficiency which are truly the quality of "Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP)” advocated by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej aimed at developing sustainable economy and lifestyles based on local wisdom.
Moreover, the book illustrates very well the Thai way of living, especially how local craftsmen use their surrounding materials as well as local knowledge for handicraft creation. These products, in turn, reflect the belief and traditional way of thinking of the Thai people. Besides, the book also provides useful directory of these local provinces which I highly recommend you to visit for your first hand experience. Last but not least, I hope that this book will inspire the readers to create their own design as well as to gain deeper understanding on Thailand's local wisdom and come to visit Thailand add new shades to your life.
