Friends group
pitches in with
big Blotter!
C HESTERFIELD Cricket Festival is coming around quickly and the new charity, Friends of Queen's Park Cricket has refurbished a really useful piece of
kit - a Blotter, for use if it rains which it often does! The Friends group stepped in to try to ensure that the
annual Chesterfield Cricket Festival in July is not affected by any adverse weather.
The organisers of the Festival in July are hoping for some dry weather this year. Chesterfield hosts the only Derbyshire home cricket matches played away from Derby and the Queen’s Park games are the nearest county cricket for Yorkshire supporters living in Sheffield. This year, Derbyshire host Northamptonshire for a four- day game starting on Sunday, 22nd July, and then Yorkshire visit for a T20 game on Saturday, 28th July.
An essential piece of equipment for any top cricket
ground is something to quickly get water off the ground
after the British rain has stopped. Step forward the Blotter,
a fantastic piece of kit and a brilliant bit of design. A true
piece of the finest British boffin-ship, if ever there was one, it picks up surface water quickly into its drum and then drops it well away from the cricket field.
The trouble was that Chesterfield’s Blotter was a bit the worse for wear, so Friends of Queen’s Park Cricket, a registered charity
Friends group members Ian (left) and Tim show off Queen’s Park’s newly-refurbished Blotter
established to increase community participation in cricket, has paid for its resurrection and it is now poised on the boundary, waiting to spring into action.

Jake said, “It’s such a privilege to support Ashgate Hospicecare. I lost both my dad and brother to cancer and can say that it makes such a
difference to the lives of families to know that the people they love most in the world are being well looked after throughout such a horrible illness.”
This is Ashgate Hospicecare’s 4th Sparkle Night Walk since it was rebranded from the Midnight Walk. Last year, more than 2,500 walkers with their pink T-shirts and flashing bunny ears walked together and raised an incredible £202,500 in sponsorships This year, the hospice is expecting more than 3,000 walkers to sign up.
