Courtney’s national title
A PPERKNOWLE gymnast Courtney Simpson shone in this year’s national championships at Fenton Manor, Stoke-on-
Trent.
Representing the East Midlands, the 11-year-old Dronfield Henry
Fanshawe School pupil helped her team to the national title and, individually, finished third overall and bars champion from a field of 56 competitors.
Courtney started out in the world of gymnastics at the age of six at the beginning of 2013. She became a Yorkshire champion the following year, going on to compete for the White Rose county on the national stage and finished 22nd in Great Britain.
She then moved gyms and is now with a new coach at Amber Valley Gymnastics Academy in Derbyshire. She became Derbyshire Level 2 Overall Champion in July 2017 and East Midlands Silver Medallist two months later.
This year she was crowned East Midlands Champion in March.
Tea party invitation
A DRONFIELD couple are inviting family, friends and the local community to a tea party in memory of their
daughter.
Richard and Judith Mumby’s get-together will raise money for
Bloodwise – the blood cancer research charity.
Their daughter, Lisa, sadly died ten years ago from acute myloid leukaemia, despite her courage and determination to beat her illness. She left her husband , Simon, and two young daughters.
Judith said: “Lisa always wanted to help other people so we know she would approve of us raising money for the charity Bloodwise, formerly Leukaemia Lymphona Research.”
The event is part of Bloodwise’s ‘Tea with the Girls’ campaign, inspired by the Calendar Girls whose fund-raising idea for a naked calendar prompted a film and musical.
Judith said: “The Calendar Girls sadly will not be present, neither will there be naked ladies! However, everyone is welcome, ladies, men and children.
“Please come and have a cup of tea and a slice cake with us.”
