Wings
Local policing matters
Welcome to the latest update for Wings magazine from the village’s Safer Neighbourhood policing team
P CSOs Mike Coates and Mario Montisci are the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team for the Wingerworth and
Rural area.
They work alongside colleagues from teams in the surrounding areas, response officers and partnership agencies to ensure the area continues to be a safe place in which to live.
On Wednesday, April 24th, a quad bike, or golf buggy, was recovered from a bridle path near to Nethermoor Farm, on Nethermoor Lane. The bike had been stolen from Chesterfield Golf Club at Matlock Road, Walton, around 7am on Friday, April 6th.
After being driven around Birdholme for a week, the thieves drove it through Wingerworth and attempted to use country lanes to get to Tupton.
The occupants tried to get through from Stocksmoor Lane to Derby Road via Martins Lane. Unable to proceed any further after crossing the brook, they turned around, went back down Stocksmoor Lane where the vehicle ran out of fuel and remained there for a day or two before police arranged for it to be towed back to the golf club.
Damage was caused to the public footpath which has been repaired by Wingerworth footpath volunteers.
We’d like to hear from anyone who may have noticed this bike, a Kayote utility vehicle (Kioh Macron 2200) which was orange and black, in the area during this time.
If you have any information you think could help with our inquiries, please get in touch.
‘Neighbour saw a man
enter an unlocked car
on the driveway’
We would also like to take the opportunity to remind people about keeping their vehicles secure, and any valuables out of sight.
A neighbour saw a man enter an unlocked car on a driveway on Longedge Lane, Wingerworth, in the early hours.
A security camera picked up a male in a pale hoodie walk up the road and then the drive and get into their car.
Fortunately, nothing was taken from the vehicle.
It can be easy, especially with newer or keyless entry models, to leave them open but we would urge motorists to check it’s locked, and check again. Did the central locking click or the lights flash? If you’re not sure, try again.
Park in a secure garage if you have one, and take your belongings with you. Sat-navs, mobile phones, laptops and cash are the obvious targets, but bags, wallets, coats, sports kit and even jumpers can signal something more valuable could be hiding inside.
Finally, if you notice someone looking into cars or trying door handles, please report it. Call 101, unless you see a crime in progress, then the number is always 999.
