ZJW: So what’s the five year plan?
MRT: It’s emergent, cos you know, we got to con- nect with Sige [Records] and the powerhouse of that recording label and then we got connected with Earth and Randall Dunn, and it keeps opening up, broadening our family, broadening the communicative behavior that is exhibited on stage as our relationship. You know, we grow together and we grow with our families. And then being more transparent about who we are, how we are changing/dealing - you know, we navigate the sinewave of life! So that is all in there.
What I’m hearing is that there is a real integration of playing music, with your identities, and your growth.
ZJW: Yeah.
MRT: I started a platform through this called Music Research Strategies, similar to Sun Ra’s social science thing, we research this emergence, this thing that has to happen.
Is yours futuristic or futurism-based?
MRT: No. It’s now-based.
Are you talking about emergent theory that comes from an intelligent system?
MRT: Emergence... Complexity theory.
Yeah! Just checking.
ZJW: So... yeah, five year plan! I think that as we travel and meet people like yourself and other bands that we get to play with, and other venues that we get to work with, I see a lot of family being built that can ask of each other when we need, and con- tinue to support, because I think at the core, I defi- nitely identify as an artist, and so I think we nurture each other, so continuing to do this work and being
engaging with people - it’s not like we
come in, soundcheck, play and
leave. Marshall’s really good at this - he will in- troduce himself to everyone, immediately, you know?
And get to some core questions,
quickly. Not just beat around the bush, and so we really take this seriously.
