My most significant relationships start, end or are carried by a publication. My relationship to myself, my design prac- tice, my community and even my God rely on being facilitated by the book in different forms. And from this, as a designer, I seem always to have a pub- lication manifest from each pivotal theme, individual or community that impacts me.
My recommendations all have to be zines I have participated in the making of — not to spotlight my role, but to share with you, what is meaningful to me and how zines become an invitation to participate in these connections. Everyone I love has been in a publi- cation credit of mine or I a credit in theirs.
We repeat Breton’s statement in our circles — “we publish to find com- rades.” We also publish when we find comrades.
My experience as a resident artist at PICA with the IPRC in Portland in 2019 was one of those pivotal and sig- nificant connections to me, and here on screen is just one of the published out- comes from the comradeship.
