“Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture is unique. It is precious. It is meaningful. It is truly African in spirit and nature.”
Conclusion
As I reviewed the contents of this book, I realised how incredibly fortunate I am to have lived through the last 30 years of active involvement with the world of Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture.
It is an art form that is unlike anything else. Its creation has sometimes been borne from hardship but always from love.
When we opened Stone Dynamics Gallery in 1986 to provide young, up-and-coming sculptors with a platform through which to create and promote their work, little did we realise that we would be witnessing the resurgence of a movement that would ignite the interest of the international art world.
It has been an exciting, occasionally frustrating, 30 years but it has been worth every minute. Today, Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture, with its rich history, receives the recognition it so abundantly deserves. It is coveted by collectors, revered by fellow artists, wooed by galleries and enjoyed by fortunate owners worldwide who include royalty, celebrities, politicians and those who simply appreciate excellent art.
I am so proud to have been involved and to have played a part in its development. I am particularly proud to have promoted the artists them- selves and to have encouraged them to reveal and use their creative skills.
Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture is unique. It is precious. It is meaningful. It is truly African in spirit and nature. And it continues to astound and amaze. From a rich heritage has come true artistic genius that continues to influence, shape and inspire modern art today.
This is a legacy that we should all be proud of.
