Today many of the artists, led by Dominic Benhura, do not like labels such as ‘Zimbabwe Stone Sculpture’ or ‘First’, ‘Second’ and now ‘Third Generation’. They want to be recognized as sculptors in the world, and as individuals, and compared to artists in other countries on this basis. This is probably the inevitable final direction of sculpture in Zimbabwe. However there is no doubt that this small African country will continue for many years to be a place where sculpture of the highest quality and originality is produced.
