Cry of The Kalahari
As bountiful as the drops of the great Okavango, are
the dried-out tears that form the Kalahari sands: an
indescribable beauty that allures the explorer’s soul.
Its endless expanse clothed elegantly in rhythmic shades
of dune, unveils a barren and infinite splendour formed
meticulously through time and wind.
Enchanting dunes hide a remote and hostile environment
where mammon holds no value and wealth is measured in
silver drops of heaven.
The desert utters an ancient language, to understand is to
listen with your heart, see with your mind and feel with your
soul in a dialect of spirit.
Coolness of night brings great relief, but from fear of the
light, dusk always flees from the dawn as the rising sun
swiftly turns paradise into a scorching incinerator.
Mighty seas of sand inhale the fragile streams, absorbing
the rivers of life into a thirsty grave, as desolation suffocates
the earth, consuming it in a blaze of dust and fire.
A gentle voice cries out from the furnace like the howl of a
jackal on a lonely night, the cry of the Kalahari resonates
across the land in a desperate plea for salvation.
Promise of hope whispers silently in a travelling breeze,
as the camel-thorn pods rattle with excitement, and
sandgrouse sing in joyful delight.
A lonely cloud fills the sky with great anticipation as the
sweet fragrance of life flows across the scorched plains like
a desert tsunami.
The sound of thunder announces its anticipated arrival as
the sky transforms into dramatic shades of sapphire and
drops of rain explode in ecstasy, bursting into the bright
colours of life.
An unhospitable wilderness is transfigured as the vapour
of death diminishes, the cry for salvation has for now been
silenced as the desert inhabitants enjoy a brief season of
abundance.
