photographers through their Storytelling Clubs initiative.
This community development programme aims to support
young storytellers, especially around the Okavango
Delta, to contribute to their talent, so that they could use
storytelling to improve their livelihoods. The initiative
also has a deliberate agenda to introduce these budding
storytellers to nature storytelling in the hopes that they
will one day lead the wildlife conservation storytelling
narrative about the biodiversity hotspot that surrounds
their home.
The initiative is facilitated by Nkashi Trust’s storytelling
officer and wildlife photographer, Karabo Moilwa. Karabo
is a self-taught photographer himself and is passionate
about sharing knowledge and developing young talent. He
leads this mentorship programme that includes various
cohorts from different clubs.
The Nkashi Wild initiative hopes to introduce young
Maun photographers to wildlife photography and help
them add nature images to their portfolios. The first cohort
comprises alumni of National Geographic Photo Camp
that was held in Maun. Nkashi Trust used the opportunity
of the Photo Camp to recruit Maun street photographers
to be part of the camp. Other students came from Thari-
e-Ntsho Storytellers - a youth group based in Maun. The
Camp involved 20 students who were immersed into
