Previous pages: A pride of lions make a water
crossing albeit tentatively. Hidden dangers such as
crocodiles could be detrimental to them. It is part of
life along the Chobe and the lions here will swim in
search of prey.
Below: Curious by nature, giraffe will often stop and
study their surroundings. Equipped with excellent
eye site and a height advantage, they can easily scan
for predatory threats.
Facing page: Perhaps overlooked, a new behavior
has been noted with Malachite kingfishers using
waterlilies as a perch from which to hunt. This is now
a much sought after image amongst photographers.
Being a mother to my wonderful, intelligent little
girl, Solana, has further deepened my commitment
to conservation. I want to instil in her the values of
environmental stewardship and the significance of
preserving our planet’s biodiversity. Teaching her about
photography is also a joy, as it allows me to share my passion
and the importance of capturing and cherishing the beauty
around us. Watching her curiosity and appreciation for
nature grow is one of my greatest rewards and I hope that
one day she will continue where I left off and contribute
greatly to the conservation of the park and beyond.
Chobe National Park’s ever-changing landscapes offer
photographers like myself a canvas where each photograph
tells a story of survival, beauty, and the interconnectedness
of life in the wild. It’s not just a place to capture stunning
images, but also a classroom where I can share my passion
for photography with visitors. The journey of a woman
wildlife photographer is often filled with unparalleled joys
as well as unpredictable challenges.
