WILLIAM STEEL
William has been captivated by the
wildlife that surrounded him from a
young age. Raised in Botswana, he
was able to explore and discover
the beauty of untamed wilderness.
This passion for the natural world
ultimately defines his photography.
His camera has taken him to some
amazing places, enabled him to
see some breathtaking sights, and
helped him meet some wonderful
people along the way. Now based
in Kasane, William has done
photography for projects for the
BBC and National Geographic and
has recently founded the South
African Photographer of the Year
competition. William now focuses
mainly on guiding photographic
tours throughout Southern Africa
and beyond.
This ongoing dialogue between the viewer and nature
is what motivates me to continue my work. Each venture
into the wilderness is a chance to capture the spirit of the
landscape and its inhabitants in a way that feels fresh and
engaging. Through photography, I hope to offer a glimpse
of Botswana’s wildlife that is both intimate and awe-
inspiring, sharing the beauty of the natural world with
others in a humble and heartfelt way.
Photography is a powerful tool for wildlife awareness,
serving as a bridge between remote natural habitats and
the global public. It captures the beauty, diversity, and
complexity of wildlife, making distant realities tangible
and immediate. This visual connection can spark interest
and empathy, hopefully leading to stronger conservation
efforts. ■ DB25
