Botswana Wild Bird Trust have partnered with OKACOM, National Geographic Society, De Beers Group, and others in order to fund and continue this work. And through the Okavango Eternal partnership with De Beers, we have engaged in compelling storytelling, across numerous platforms, to raise awareness of the Delta and its benefits. That includes a Setswana- language film on the Nkashi Classic - a race and cultural celebration of the mokoro - an annual race held in Botswana.
Previous pages: The vast watery wilderness of the Okavango Delta is best explored by dugout canoes known locally as mokoros. These vessels serve to get researchers into places that few humans frequent in the search to understand this dynamic system.
Above: Few animals, such as the Hippopotamus influence the system to the degree that they do. Through their behavior and movements, Hippos keep channels open and can sometimes even change the flow of water in the delta.
