The Greater Kalahari Basin spans several countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the biggest section being in Botswana. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (the second largest single protected wildlife reserve in the world) being its soul, the Greater Makgadikgadi its beating heart, all empowered and fed by the Okavango Delta.
Indeed, the Kalahari is a living organism and not merely a huge, sandy geographic area. It is an ecological entity, with intricate balances that define harmony or disturbance within. The often harsh, rugged desert-like appearance camouflages its true nature; a fragile ecosystem filled with adapted flora and fauna for which our protection is vital.
