Above: The Chobe River’s high concentration of Hippopotamus can often lead to territorial disputes and aggression amongst the male population both on land and in water.
Right: Water or Nile Monitor Lizards are frequently sighted along the banks of the Chobe River. In size, the Monitor is second to the Nile crocodile. Their stunning markings allow them to blend into their surroundings as they hunt for a varied diet of prey items including fish, eggs, insects, rodents, birds, and even other reptiles such as snakes.
Facing Page: Portrait of an African Darter with a Cape Buffalo. The African darter is every fish´s nightmare! With its long sharp beak, it can carefully impale fresh fish from the rich Chobe River. The Africa buffalo’s curved horns serve as protection against predation and add to the stature of an already imposing animal.
