From the milky shores of the Makgadikgadi, to the verdant waterways of the Okavango, Botswana is a kaleidoscope of ever-changing contrasts. Boundless, vast and teeming with life, it is a world of infinite richness, beauty and complexity.
We have spent thousands of hours over the last decade photographing some of the most remote and spectacular wilderness areas of southern Africa from the air in our specially modified aircraft. We have left our hearts in many places, but one of our most profound experiences has been flying over and photographing
Botswana.
Botswana has a unique genius loci, a spirit of place, replicated
nowhere else on earth. Existing in what seems to be timeless isolation, this jostling ecosystem dances to ancient rhythms in a ceaseless, eternal
cycle of life. It swells and subsides, sometimes subtly and sometimes dramatically, as the never-ending struggle for life ensues. This constantly changing living tapestry ensures that no one moment is ever the same, that each and every time we explore these lands of water and dust there is something new and beautiful to be discovered. It is a photographer’s and nature lover’s Valhalla.
When seen from the seat of a light aircraft, Botswana is a sensory feast. A breath-taking view of one of nature’s most spectacular visual masterpieces. Flying over the grand solitude of the Kalahari and the iridescent Okavango, arouses deep emotions as it is a glimpse into an ancient world. It has certainly given us the opportunity to contemplate realms larger than ourselves, marvel at the genius of nature and ponder life’s deeper questions.
