PHAKALANE GOLF ESTATE
HOTEL RESORT
A four-star resort located in Botswana’s
premier golf estate, Phakalane Golf
Estate Hotel is a venue with a difference
close to the business heart of Gaborone.
As well as 80 rooms offering three
accommodation options in the hotel, there
are eight 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom self-catering
units with facilities that include fully equipped
kitchens, spacious lounges, patios and a
communal pool.
All come with golf course views, while
other facilities include a business centre, pool,
two restaurants – Drotsky’s with terrace views
and Feathers Halfway House for breakfast and
day-time snacks, changing in the evening in to
an Oriental theme restaurant featuring a wok
station and sushi bar – plus the Office Bar and
Wine Reserve.
A major attraction is the only 18-hole
championship golf course in Botswana, set
around 15 dams, but for business, Phakalane
scores highly with its newly refurbished
conference centre offering a range of flexible
meeting spaces with capacity for 300 delegates
and an outdoor venue for groups of up to 500.

MOKOLODI GAME
RESERVE
For something very different, the Mokolodi
Game Reserve sited 15km south of
Gaborone provides a unique venue
incorporating meeting facilities and the natural
attractions of the country on a 3,700-hectare
site.
A registered non-profit charity organisation
set up in 1994, Mokolodi aims to provide the
children of Botswana with an area where they
can learn about nature, conservation and the
environment – where a diverse array of animals
and birds provide both entertainment and
education.
On the Mokolodi hills, the reserve boasts two
conference options – the World View Conference
Centre has a/c and WiFi, a back-up generator
plus spectacular views, while the Boma is suitable
for smaller groups offering a secluded venue
overlooking a flood plain near the Reserve’s main
dam.
Both have outdoor bonfire facilities, can be
equipped with data projectors, PA systems and
full catering and bar services.
In addition the Lake Side can cater for up
to 100 people for braais/barbecues; the Nandos
Bush Braai Site has a capacity for 250 for
corporate events and there is also the Mokolodi
Restaurant with a la carte options.
Some on-site accommodation is also
available – there are five well-appointed self-
catering chalets and five private camping sites,
the latter accommodating a maximum of
eight guests each. The McCall Smith Camp
was built with funds donated by the author
Alexander McCall Smith and resembles a
traditional Tswana thatched hutted dwelling
with five individual huts. This self-catering
accommodation, located in the south of the
Reserve (away from the main chalets), offers
up-close game viewing and a unique, African
experience for visitors.
In addition, Mokolodi offers up a range
of opportunities for game drives, bush braais,
champagne brunches, night drives, rhino
tracking, giraffe tracking and cycling.
