Indian Food with Canadians
I just watched a video of Tom House teaching football and baseball mechanics to pitchers and quarterbacks and again I'm enthused about the knowledge available to athletes these days. In the old days, a pitcher or quarterback could lose his career because of a tiny mechanical flaw, something that could've been easily fixed if anyone knew what the hell to do. I love golf, and every day when I go to the range or go play I know that if my back could take it I could practice enough to be a really good player. I also know there is absolutely no reason for an 80-year-old to try to become a good golfer, but I'm hooked and always have been.
The Tom House video inspired me to work more on golf. Maybe I'll work on footwork too, as my balance is not great at the finish. If you get to a good finish, the bottom of your swing should be at the right place, right? Unless you do that phony old-man finish where the swing stops at waist height and then you fake it on up to a Jason Day pose.
I'm going to the range now, maybe down to Haripunchai Golf Course. It's a long way but I have nothing to do and a good book to listen to in the car. I don't know how much longer I'll have the freedom of being able to drive, so I'm going to enjoy it while I can.
Okay, it's later in the day and the driving range at Haripunchai is the best in town. Beautiful grass, surrounded by trees, lots of yardage markers and you can see the ball really well against the green scenery. Well worth the 45-minute drive down the Super Highway even with it being under construction most of the way. They are widening it, putting in overpasses. If you keep going south on the Super Highway, in 8 hours you'll be in Bangkok. You can also go by train, which takes about 12 hours, but I've heard it's a pleasant trip, with sleeper cars for overnight travel.
Robin, a friend of ours from Canada, is leaving tomorrow and having Indian food tonight but we're not going. The restaurant is near the Sunday Walking Street and parking will be awful. Oops, change of plans. Jintana wants to go to the walking street and maybe her sister and the kids will want to go too so I guess we're going.
