CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
The unfortunate “Sandpaper Gate” experience in the 3rd Test between Australia and South Africa is a timely reminder of the broader responsibilities we all have to our great game. To quote Don Bradman:
“It is the responsibility of all those that play the game (the custodians) to leave the game in a better shape than when they first became involved”.
While we play the game hard, I am proud of the way our Club plays the game and the exemplary behaviour of our people at all levels – players, coaches and managers. In Junior Boys and Girls cricket especially, our ‘Participation over Results’ policy goes a long way towards moving the emphasis away from win at all costs to giving everyone who plays for us a fair go.
Cricket Club of the Year
Recognition of our off-field achievements came this year with two significant Awards:
• Cricket NSW selected us as Community Cricket Club of the Year 2017
• Sport NSW conferred Runner Up status on us at the Community Sporting Club of the Year 2017 Award ceremony held at NSW Parliament Hose covering more than 80 NSW sporting organisations and 670,200 adult volunteers and thousands of Sporting Clubs throughout NSW (NRL, Football, AFL, Rugby, Netball, Athletics...)
Next season we will build on the significant achievements when we introduce Blowfly Cricket for young people with disability.
Club History
We launched our Club History during our 87th year and it has been very well received by a wide audience. This is an excellent record of our history going back to 1930 and tells the story of who we are as a Club. Our thanks to Ross Anderson who has spent countless hours, over many years, compiling this important record.
Strategy
Cricket Australia
Cricket Australia released its 5-year strategy (2017/18). It is worth a read to see the direction we are heading as a Sport. Have a look at the video to see the strategy – www.cricketaustralia.com.au/about/our-strategy
Club Strategy
Our Club’s 3-year strategy (2015-18) is nearing completion and next season we will refresh the strategy to build on what this strategy has achieved. Significant achievements over the last 3 years, as a result of this strategy, includes:
• Development of an Academy
• Surveys of all players and families
• Development of a new website
• Re-invigoration of Girls Cricket under Graham Chivers
• Rewriting of our ‘Participation Over Results’ policy by Julian Bish to make it relevant to today
• Transition of In2Cricket (Kanga) after the wonderful leadership of John Coulthard to Bill Peterkin who is fast developing his own legacy.
